Birthday Parties
By: Kristina Malmstrom
There’s no doubt that there is a myriad of ideas for Birthday Parties for kids. And while some people are happy with tried ideas like bowling, zoos, and arcades, some kids want a birthday that is truly spectacular and stands out from the rest. Here, we’ve assembled these unusual and exciting kids’ birthday parties.
1. Play A Kid-Friendly Escape Room
What We Offer
Puzzles and Kids puts children directly into any of the Trap Door Escape Room’s experiences across their three locations. The kids are free to explore the rooms and solve the puzzles, just like their parents. However, they’ll be accompanied by an in-character guide that helps them solve the difficult puzzles.
It’s a fun way for kids to play escape rooms, but with some bonus aid that their parents won’t get. This experience is available at any of Trap Door Escape Room’s locations for any of the experiences available at the respective locations.
Locations

Bartonsville is currently hosting 7 unique escape room experiences. Check out our Poconos Page Here to find the best fit for you and your crew!
Also of note at this location is F5 Tornado! In 2021, this game won the title of Best Immersive Experience in the world. In F5 Tornado Escape, you’ll have to seek shelter from an approaching tornado. This game is great for families with children, and features a range of mental and physical puzzles and obstacles.
Red Bank, NJ
Everest takes place on, you guessed it, Mount Everest. After a previous climate research team went missing, your mission is to follow their footsteps and figure out what happened. In 2021, hardly a year after opening, Everest boasts a bronze win for the Player’s Choice Award for Best In-Person Escape Room.
Morristown, NJ
Our Escape Room in Morristown, NJ is pure magic! Super Powered Oddities to Witchcraft, it all combines for a conjuring of spectacle unlike anything you have ever seen. We are currently hosting three fantastical games in Morristown. Check out our Morristown Page Here to choose the best adventure for you!
For family-friendly, light-hearted fun, check out The Greatest Freakshow. As the newest members of Xunder’s oddity troupe, it’s up to you to save the circus from the spell of an evil mermaid. This escape room even features musical elements for a fun and engaging experience to play with children.
Witch Hunt, on the other hand, is a touch more mature. During the Salem Witch Trials, you have to prove whether a woman accused of witchcraft is guilty or innocent. This creepy game is spell-binding but dark in nature.
Finally, Day of the Dead is a great mid-ground. This game is a rich Latin-American celebration of life and death. With more challenging puzzles but a much lower fear factor than other games, Day of the Dead is the perfect family friendly challenge for Holiday Family Time. Be sure to enquire about the fiesta package for adult groups!
Bring the Escape to You
However, if you would rather have the escape room come to you, consider booking an Under the Big Top party. This carnival themed escape room features a mix of traditional escape room puzzles and fun carnival games.
This experience will have you solving codes, assembling a jigsaw puzzle, and using beanbags to knock teeth out of a clown’s mouth, all within the same experience. It’s easily transported to your home, a venue of your choice, or our own building, complete with a large carnival tent. Regardless of which option you choose, either of these experiences guarantees a fun but challenging Birthday Parties.
2. Go Sky High at an Inflatable Play Center
Take the kids to an inflatable play or bounce center. These indoor facilities consist of a collection of inflatables, such as large slides, climbing walls, and obstacle courses. The kids can be let loose to bounce, jump, and slide their way through the huge playground. They’ll all have a blast going as high and fast as they can, while you can usually relax and keep an eye on them from the side.
Inflatable play centers have been growing in popularity as a fun way for kids to run around and have fun in a controlled environment. Most places even offer packages for kid Birthday Parties, so you can have your own private area or pizza and cake. It’s definitely an easy idea for hosting a party, while being unique enough to be a party to remember.
3. Hang Out at a Local Farm
Take the Birthday Parties to a local farm! Rather than taking a boring trip to a zoo or aquarium, go for a more unusual idea. Especially for kids that love horses or farm animals, this is a great way to get them up close and personal with these animals.
You can typically meet and pet a variety of farm animals including horses, sheep, chickens, goats, and cows. They’ll get to explore the barn and other animal areas that they’ve probably never seen before. They’ll get to engage more with the animals than they would at a zoo or aquarium, which the kids will love.
Plus, it’s great learning experience on farm life. You’ll definitely want to contact your local farms to see if any of them will host Birthday Parties like this, and ask them about any other extras they might do with the kids. Overall, this is a fantastic way to both get the kids interacting with animals as well as learn more about them.
For those who are crafty at heart, plan birthday parties at your local craft store. Many craft stores already offer a variety of kids’ Birthday Parties, but even if they don’t, it’s worth inquiring about. You can typically pick what type of craft they do, which means you can personalize it based on the birthday child’s preferences.
Additionally, most stores have a private room set aside for these, as well as a staff member who assists the children that may struggle with it. Craft Birthday parties are a great way to encourage DIY projects without having to plan the actual craft and supplies out yourself. At the end, the kids even get to go home with their own craft project they made themselves.
5. Try a Cooking Class
Everyone loves food, so why not plan a party that incorporates this? A kid-friendly cooking class is a great way to get children to appreciate food and try their hand at making their own dish. These classes teach kids basic cooking skills as well as kitchen safety.
Plus, they’ll learn how to measure, mix, stir, and pour while making their own meal from scratch. These events can also be used to increase kids’ confidence and pride as they get to create and taste their own dishes. Plus, an argument can be made for cooking and baking aiding with imagination and creativity.
There are many venues that already host Birthday Parties, so they are fully prepared and offer a variety of kids birthday party packages. For a more unique take, contact your child’s favorite restaurant and see if they would be willing to host! It would be even better if they’re able to take a full tour of the kitchen in addition to the class.
Of course, for DIY parents, you can even host this party in your own kitchen! No matter how you go about it, this is a tasty way to entertain kids for hours!
6. Puppy Party
What’s tiny, cute, and sure to be a hit at a party? A puppy, of course! Now we just take that, multiply it, and we’re left with the ultimate party idea: puppy Birthday Parties!
Exactly what they sound like, puppy parties are simply a party with puppies. The kids are free to play, pet, and cuddle the dogs as much as they please. Though still an atypical birthday party, puppy birthday parties have been increasing in popularity as more people learn about them.
To arrange puppy Birthday Parties, simply get in touch with your local shelter or pet store and ask them about the possibility of renting puppies for a few hours for the party- there may even be a local party planning service you can hire that arranges it for you.
Most are happy to let the puppies have kids to play with for a few hours, plus there’s the chance that they could find a forever home with one of the guests. Just hope that none of the puppies try to give the birthday kid a present!
7. Reach for the Sky with Rock Climbing
Take the party to a rock climbing gym for a fun birthday party no one will forget! This is a popular recreational activity for all ages and ability levels. A rock climbing gym typically features artificially created walls similar to large, outdoor rocks or boulders with special holes or grips for your hands and feet. With access to the gym, you get to climb the walls, both for fun and exercise.
It’s a fun outdoor activity brought indoors that’s very fulfilling. Most places are equipped to hold Birthday Parties, and often have private birthday party room as well as other party packages and add ons. Kids will usually get to try roped-climbing and bouldering, as well as play fun games and team-building activities.
The Birthday Parties are designed to make kids comfortable and confident on the wall, as well as introduce them to an activity that they may not have gotten to try before. Rock climbing is a fun activity regardless of age or skill level, so your party is bound to be a blast!
8. Take a Factory Tour
Does your child have a favorite snack or toy that’s produced locally? Consider arranging a factory tour for their birthday! With a factory tour, you can travel to the facility that makes a given product to learn more about it for Birthday Parties.
They’ll show you each step of the process to make the item, be it chocolate, crayons, or chips, and answer any questions along the way. They may even have an interactive space where you can engage directly with a part of the process. These tend to be very educational experiences but kids often love all of the visuals on how to make the products. Most tours even give out free samples at the end, so what’s not to love?
9. Soar at a Trampoline Park
For off-the-wall Birthday Parties, go to a trampoline park! Trampoline parks have been becoming more popular over the years as a fun place to bounce around and get high (in the air)! Trampoline parks feature large assortment of trampolines, and usually other recreational activities like dodgeball and laser tag too.
Most places will feature kids birthday party packages, which makes it convenient and easy to rent their space for a party. Kids can bounce around, play the assorted games, and take a high dive into a foam pit. This is a fun way to let your kids have high-flying Birthday Parties.
10. Head for a Street Fair or Festival
Why not take a group of kids to a local street fair? Most towns have a variety of street fairs and festivals throughout the year, and they make a fun place to let kids roam around with tons of entertainment. Most will have live music or performances, as well as interactive stands and pop-ups for the children, such as inflatables or rock climbing walls.
At different points of the year you could have festivals for holidays, such as Halloween, Christmas, or Independence Day, as well as food and events, such as craft fairs and food truck festivals. My personal favorite was a popular street fair in my town that focused on ice cream.
Many food festivals will even let you stop by certain vendors for a sample, which lets you try a variety of food from a ton of local places. You can even learn about new local restaurants you hadn’t been to before. Maybe you’ll even find a new favorite!
Either way, street fairs and festivals are a great way to entertain kids outdoors for a while, while getting either cheap or free entertainment for Birthday Parties

History
The idea came to Tone Purzycki back in 2011 after he wrote a screenplay that developed into a live-streaming game. The game revolved around an actor trapped in a situation and the audience had to solve puzzles to figure out where he was trapped. The “Find Me Event” had more than 1,000 people playing over the course of several hours. After the success of several other streaming events, the idea of an escape room was born.
