Which Escape Room Personality Are You?
By: Janis Adams
Personality quizzes seem to be all the rage right now. Whether it be what your aura color is, what your Hogwarts house is, or what your spirit animal is, all these tests circle back to early psychology. For example, Carl Jung believed that people could “be characterized by their preference of general attitude.” Read more on that HERE. Here at Trap Door, we’re interested in what sort of escape room personality you have.

Discovering your Escape Room Personality
Everyone can agree that there is always that missing piece which is hard to find, or recognize, or manipulate to fit it in. Are you the piece that is out there, but needs to hone in to be the best escape room player?
In every Escape Room, your unique piece of street smarts or book smarts are needed. You never know what weird piece of information will pop up in an escape room theme, after all. Puzzling is all about being original and innovative and unique.
Could any of these describe you, or do you have an approach all your own? What’s the piece you bring to the puzzle for your team?
Puzzling Personalities that Win Escape Rooms
The Eagle Eye
The Eagle Eye is the one who has the visionary ability to spot the clues. Walking into the room, scoping it out and seeing the innuendos with eyes like those of eagles.
Rarely missing a detail, this player takes it all in and keeps track of those little things. This skill is necessary to win the game. Are you this escape room player?
The Communicator
A Communicator is the one who shares the information, organizes it collectively, and who acts as an arbiter for all the players.
They are not exactly a coach and not exactly the referee either but somewhere in between the two, and is intrinsically needed to succeed at an escape quest.
The Brainiac
The Brainiac is the one who not only knows the facts but brings them to the table and unpacks them so that other players can understand and apply them.
To sum up, they have done some research or simply has that broad knowledge of the storyline of the game. This player has a focused mind for puzzles and knows how to win escape rooms.
The Weaver
A Weaver will weave the pieces together. Not only integrating the players, but also the non-player aspects of the game.
In other words, this person creates a cohesive whole in which the players can interact and remain integral parts of the game. This is done by applying the clues in order to complete the escape room.
The Clock Keeper
The Time Clock Keeper keeps the time and the game on track and knows the clock is one of the keys to unlock how to win the escape room. They focus on the big picture, like counting the minutes and herding the players in a constant flow of movement.
Moreover, this person is usually someone who has at least played one game before so they have a sense of what it takes to beat the escape room. Keeping an eye on the clock will surely help you finish the escape game with time to spare.
The Conductor
A Conductor uses an understanding of the game, communication skills, and the ability to moderate during disputes. This person also helps ferret out the abilities of other players so they can be applied to the outcome of the game.
In short, the conductor keeps people working in tandem and performing like a well-orchestrated symphony.
The Booster
The Booster keeps it all going, and senses the positivity needed to win an escape room! Even when there are those who are on the verge of tapping out, a booster will motivate them to keep playing. Whether a puzzle-pro or a complete newbie every group needs one.
This person cheers for the team and keeps the group positive, upbeat, and chugging full steam ahead. No matter if they are doling out positive words, or recounting how much is accomplished, it’s important to have some positivity in the room.
The Cheater
A Cheater unfortunately can show up, that one person who thinks that they can outwit the escape room by trying bypass puzzles or force a lock open. This is not the way to win an escape room or truly enjoy the game.
As much as there are many life hacks, an escape room is one place you don’t get ahead by trying to break the rules. Most importantly, this is the one piece that doesn’t fit in. Don’t be that person.
Which Piece are You in the Escape Room Puzzle?
As seen from above, there are many potential roles that you can fulfill when puzzling away in escape rooms. It’s especially key to know what you bring to the table when you’re teaming with strangers. The more players in an Escape Room the more possibilities for success, which is especially important in the difficult escape rooms.
However, you can only be as strong as your weakest link. So, it’s best to know what you and your teammates bring to the table as soon as possible. As displayed above, there are many ways to be a problem solver (some are arguably better than others). Step out, see who you are and how you fit.
In Conclusion. . . How Do I Win Now That I Know my Escape Room Personality?
Don’t panic, you can win escape rooms, easily enough! Just make sure that each person on your team is a part in the puzzle and there is no one trying to control another person’s piece. No matter your escape room personality, it takes a team to make the dream work!
Bottom line, everyone has an A-Game to bring to the room, the reality of escape rooms is that there is no single person who is pieced-out to do it alone.
Happy Puzzling!

The idea came to Tone Purzycki back in 2011 after he wrote a screenplay that developed into a live-streaming game. This game revolved around an actor trapped in a situation and the audience had to solve puzzles to figure out where he was trapped. The “Find Me Event” had more than 1,000 people playing over the course of several hours. After the success of several other streaming events, the idea of an escape room was born.
